Following on the release of his free debut album, Low Flying Crow, which hit hard drives last August, Sunburnt Jets dropped a three song EP, retreat / out of here / blood brick, on July 1st.

Sunburnt Jets is the moniker of Monaghan-born, Japan-made and Dublin-based musician Colin Boylan. He is best known for combining home-programmed drum machines, maximum big muff and soothing iminyourhead vocals. His first album gained interest far and wide from the likes of Nialler9, Jim Carroll (Irish Times), GoldenPlec, Ragged Words and Harmless Noise.

While his first album was an entirely solo affair recorded in a Monaghan bedroom, the retreat / out of here / blood brick three track EP is a much more collaborative affair. Production duties were shared with Brendan Rehill and there are guest performances on each of the three songs (see credits). Recording took place in Windmill Lane Recording Studios and Stephen Quinn (Patrick Kelleher, Cap Pas Cap, Bouts) once again handles mastering duties.

The songs on the EP are a hodgepodge of different genres resulting in a unique overall sound dubbed by their creator as "melodic post-apocalyptic noise pop". The artwork was created by wheatln2 and is based around a photograph of graffiti from a Santa Cruz back-alley - a snapshot taken by Colin on holiday this spring. The Californian sunshine assisted the song-writing process, resulting in a happier, more content set of songs than the frustrated, lonely songs of the debut LP. This release is a pre-cursor to the planned follow-up to Low Flying Crow which will be released later this year.

July 1st is Canada Day, Sufjan Stevens will turn 36 and marks 21 years since East Germany accepted the Deutsche Mark as its currency thus unifying Germany. What better way to celebrate this monumental day than with a freebie EP?
